Bunch Design is a Los Angeles based architecture desgin studio, focusing on residential architecture. Bunch has worked on countless home remodels and new builds; and since the state law changed in 2017, constructed over 30 ground up ADU’s. Over 90% of the projects designed are built through good due diligence, thoughtful design, and client care.

Bunch Design believes that Form Follows Space, meaning that we focus on volume and the interior spaces first. We build up a narrative of sequences: space and use, storyboarding, walk-through models, as we go. We spend 90% of our time inside.. Make it count. We have an interest in making small spaces feel large. You perceive space, that means you can mess with perception. We seek lightness in our approach with simple materials.

Bunch does not specialize in a particular style, but rather considers our specialization as bringing quality ideas and spatial experiences to each project. We put strong emphasis on inventive use of materials, quality of light, use of structure, and the relationship between space and its users.

For us, design is a collaboration between many disciplines, experts, and craftsmen all coming together to make a clear idea and dream a reality. This is the genesis of our company’s name. We hope there is a project that can bring you into our group.

PRINCIPALS

Bo Sundius, AIA

Architect, Design Lead

Bo grew up on a farm outside Nashville. He likes to credit his early design aspirations to the fact that he could fish from the living room of the family house. A literature major before studying architecture, Bo is interested in the narrative power of places. He sees design as a woven relationship between people, space and their actions. And when brought together in a thoughtful and beautiful way, the new relationships can be fluid, visceral and electrically charged.

Bo graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Brown University in Rhode Island and in 2001 with a Masters of Architecture from SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture) where he won a National AIA Merit Award. He is a licensed architect in the state of California and has worked for Jerde, Gensler and Roto Architects before founding Bunch Design.

Hisako Ichiki

Design Lead

Hisako was born in the ancient city of Kamakura and immigrated to Los Angeles in 1998.  Her experience growing up in Japan relive in her warm and simple design style, a style that is both unique and surprisingly compatible with Los Angeles' lifestyle and design needs. Whether her design is large, medium, or something so small that can fit inside the palm of your hand, Hisako is committed to making ideas that are simple, effective and unheard of.

Hisako graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Management from Keio University in Tokyo Japan and in 2001 with Masters of Architecture from SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture). Since giving her thesis “Serendip(city)” at SCI-Arc on public space and art, she has been investigating the relationship between creativity and found space. Hisako has taught Architecture Studios at UCLA and SCI-Arc.

BUNCH TEAM

  • Project Architect
    LEED GA

Natacha is a licensed architect and maker from Switzerland. Growing up, she was influenced by the region’s emphasis on craftsmanship, the use of honest materials, and a deep connection to nature—values that continue to shape her work today.

She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, studying a year in Copenhagen before returning to California to graduate in 2016. Before joining Bunch in 2025, she worked on projects across all scales, ranging from furniture design to large mixed-use developments.

  • Project Architect

For Yisi Yu, architecture is not only about form and function, but a living container of lifestyle, memory, and culture. Growing up in China, she developed a deep appreciation for how traditional Chinese architecture harmonizes with nature, embodies cultural values, and shapes the human experience.

Yisi received her Bachelor of Architecture from Wuhan University and later earned her Master of Architecture from the University of Southern California.  Prior to joining Bunch, she spent more than a decade at design firms such as The Jerde Partnership and 5+design for large scale retail projects.

  • Designer

Naho was born and grew up in Japan. Because of her father’s job, her family moved around the country quite often and even abroad.  These relocations taught her importance of a home, especially that of her personal room to be always welcoming and comfortable.

Naho graduated from St. Margaret’s Junior College in Japan and studied Horticulture in Sparsholt College Hampshire in England. After working for several years in Tokyo, she moved to Los Angeles and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from SCI-Arc where she first met Hisako and interned at Bunch. She briefly worked with a friend to design Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles before joining Bunch in 2014.

  • Project Manager

Christina was born and raised in Southern California, a graduate of both UCLA and SCI-Arc. With a bachelor’s degree in art history and a specialization in the history of architecture, she worked several years as an administrative and marketing assistant at STUDIOS Architecture in Washington DC before deciding to pursue a master’s degree in architecture at SCI-ARC. Space, volume and materiality have always fascinated her. She is particularly interested in how people interact with, inhabit and alter their built environment.

After attending SCI-Arc, where she met Bo and Hisako, she joined Hisako in working for Osborn Architects in Glendale, California. At Osborn Christina worked on the firm’s residential projects (including the award-winning Meyerhofer Residence in La Canada) as well as several educational projects. After seven years of consulting and completing small projects on her own, she joins Bunch to assist in the Eaton Fire Re-Build effort.
