The client grew up in the front house and asked us to design a two story ADU for her and her young family. With grandparents living in the front house the ADU frames a courtyard to share with parents. The design is two simple boxes connected at a slight angle with a skylight that cascades like a waterfall between the volumes. The house terraces along with the natural grade with courtyards to each side. An outdoor shower is tucked off to the side, acting as a light well to the lower bathroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms, bathroom and a guest/office area.
