Bunch design principal Hisako joined Interior design firm Commune's team for the entire duration of Ace Hotel Kyoto project, from Concept design to Construction administration.
As a consultant to Commune, Hisako worked closely with the hotel Ownership, architectural partner Kengo Kuma & Associates, local architect IMA, and numerous artists and craftsmen from all over Japan. Hisako's role included overseeing design intent to be accurately and appropriately translated to local means, review and coordination of drawings, and all around communication to keep the team work seamlessly with the Japan team. Our involvement with this project brought us new and renewed respect for Japanese and West Coast USA arts and crafts, appreciation for collaboration, and deeper understanding of interior design. We are extremely honored and proud to have been part of this project, as Japan is our hometown and a place we deeply care for.
